MARAFI was established with a vision to successfully and commercially operate and manage ports within the Sultanate and also regionally and internationally. In-line with ASYAD’s aspiration to become one of top 10 global integrated logistics service provider by 2040, terminal operations growth is a critical component, including the acquisition of global terminals. ASYAD’s goal is to create significant economic benefits such as volumes connectivity, job creation, contribution to national GDP, national trade and industry enabling, technology transfer and social welfare through MARAFI. MARAFI was formed as a limited liability company under law of the Sultanate of Oman and commenced its dream journey to fulfil its vision by undertaking the operations and management of Port Sultan Qaboos with effect from 1st January 2018. The company is mandated to undertake port operations and management, including harbor and marine services, and shore based port operations including dry ports.
MARAFI’s first project was the operation and management of Port Sultan Qaboos, followed by the ports of Suwaiq, Shinas and Khasab. Port Sultan Qaboos has established itself as the focal point of maritime tourism to and from Oman. Its location and high operational efficiency have helped to establish it as the preferred port of choice for cruise liners, which have expanded their operations from port of call to turnaround calls, and winter calls to year round calls. In fact, the port’s ongoing success means that it will soon become a home port for a number of major cruise lines. Port Suwaiq and Port Shinas are medium size ports along the north coast of Sultanate that provide outstanding services to local importers and exporters. These ports have been identified for major infrastructure development given sustained and fast-growing demand from international and domestic partners.
Port Khasab, situated in the strait of Hormuz, has been selected by MARAFI as a prime candidate for development as a cruise liner destination, cargo and container re-export and transshipment hub, and industrial zone. The port is a growing tourism hub and essential gateway to Musandam, in addition to serving international markets through transshipment operations. MARAFI is dedicated to developing the Sultanate’s economy and the communities it serves, and is keenly aware of its corporate social responsibilities.
